Bring salted water to a boil. Pour cornmeal in a steady stream, stirring constantly with a wooden spoon.
Cook on low heat, stirring often, for 25-30 minutes until very thick and pulling from the sides of the pot.
Butter a baking dish and spread a layer of mamaliga on the bottom.
Crumble branza cheese over, add dollops of sour cream and pieces of butter.
Add another layer of mamaliga, more cheese, sour cream, and butter.
Beat eggs and pour over the top. Bake at 190C for 20 minutes until golden and set.
Let rest 5 minutes and serve straight from the dish. Traditionally eaten with a wooden spoon.
